Every family has its secrets…
As the first anniversary of her marriage to Vice President Nick Cappuano approaches, Lieutenant Sam Holland is dreaming of Bora Bora—sun, sand and a desperately needed break from the DC grind. But real life has a way of intervening, and Sam soon finds herself taking on one of the most perplexing cases of her career.
Government worker Josh Hamilton begs Sam to investigate his shocking claim that his parents stole him from another family thirty years ago. More complicated still, his “father” is none other than the FBI director. When a member of Josh’s family is brutally murdered, Sam begins to question how deep this cover-up goes. Is it possible the revered director was part of a baby-napping ring and that others involved are also targets?
With a killer intent on deadly revenge and her team still reeling from a devastating loss, Sam’s plate is full—and when Nick and their son, Scotty, take ill, is her dream of a tropical anniversary celebration in peril too?

Fatal Identity by Marie Force
“No way. I can change your mind.”
“I have no doubt you could, but you’re not going to. One more day won’t kill you.”
“It just might, and think about how bad you’ll feel if it does.”
Sam rolled her eyes. “Shameless manipulation will get you nowhere tonight.”
His low growl made her laugh.
“I’ve spoiled you rotten in our first year of marriage,” she said, “and now you’re downright unmanageable.”
He took her hand and pressed it against his cock. “I’m very manageable. Give me what I want, and you’ll see just how manageable I can be.”
She leaned in close to him, so close that her lips nearly touched his. “Not. Happening.”
“This is cruel and unusual punishment.”
“No, this is me being a good wife and making sure you’re totally healed before I ravage you.”
He scowled. “You can’t say no in one breath and then talk about ravaging me in the next. Not fair.”
“It’ll give you something to look forward to tomorrow. And PS, pouting is not an attractive quality for a vice president.”
“I’m not the vice president right now. I’m a horny husband with an uncooperative wife.”
“Whatever! I’m the most cooperative wife in the history of the world.”
“Most of the time…”
Before she could respond to that, her phone rang. She checked the caller ID, saw Avery’s name and took the call.
“I’m at Hamilton’s house. He’s been murdered.”
At first, his words didn’t compute. And then they registered, taking her breath away in a whoosh. “How?”
Fatal Identity is book 10 on the Fatal series by Marie Force, but my first read of the series. I was given the opportunity to read an ARC and based my decision on the blurb alone choosing to ignore that it was part of a series. While it was clear I was jumping into the middle of Sam’s life Fatal Identity is written in a way that it can stand alone. It does inspire curiosity about the first 9 books which well be heading to my TBR. Marie Force entwines suspense and romance beautifully and manages to keep the surprises up to the end. While everything ends in a HEA, there are a few details I didn’t see coming and that rarely happens to me. I enjoyed the look into Sam and Nick’s marriage and while they’re very much in love we get a real couple that struggles with everyday issues. I loved the mystery sounding the Hamilton’s. I also appreciated the lingering effects of events that clearly happen in previous books but not forgotten or brushed aside. The emotional and long term effects are addressed and dealt with. All in all a wonderful read.
